Have you always dreamt of riding a horse along the beach? Rijstal De Blinkert offers just that! Our barn is situated right next to the horse trails leading to the beach. We offer beach rides all year long, always guided by our experienced team members.

On Ameland, miles and miles of horse trails lead through the dunes, along the beach, through small forests and heathland.

Our beach rides are suitable for those with no experience in horseback riding as well as those who have been riding for years. If you would like to join us on one of our tours, please make a reservation beforehand. Just give us a call or come and visit us at our barn.

Beach ride Ameland: what’s possible

Our 1- and 1.5-hour rides are suitable for all riders, from amateurs to experienced riders. The 1-hour beach ride leads through the dunes and over the beach. If you decide to join for the 1.5-hour ride, we will also enter Ameland’s beautiful woods.

This beach ride thus is the perfect choice if you want to go for a ride with the whole family. We think that the only way to explore this part of Ameland is on horseback.

If you are new to riding a horse, we will give you a short introduction to horseback riding at the beginning of the tour, in order to make the ride as comfortable as possible to horse and rider. It is mandatory to wear a safety helmet, which you can also borrow at our barn.

Beach ride for experienced riders

We offer special tours for experienced riders, which in two hours lead along the beach to Hollum. After we passed the dunes we will first ride along a stretch of green beach, an area that was created by the migration of the sand reef Bornrif. The sand reef often is dry, which creates the perfect place for a magnificent green natural landscape outside the dunes. Every once in a while, however, the water will come back to take possession of the green beach and therefore the ground is saline – a rich, fertile soil on which plants and birds thrive. Each year in spring the area becomes a place to breed for various birds living on and around salty waters. If you look closely you will discover a number of endangered species.

Once we pass this green landscape, we enter a fantastic stretch of beach so long that you cannot not canter. We then reach Hollum, from where the route takes us through a gorgeous dune area and back to the barn. This ride is an absolute must if you are an experienced rider.

Special tours

During the summer months, Rijstal De Blinkert organizes beach rides in the evening and also beach rides that last 3-hours. If you like our Facebook page, you will be kept up to date on the dates and times of these tours. These rides are for experienced riders only, which means that we will of course enjoy a canter along the beach. Something you do not want to miss out on.

For the little ones

If you want to let your kids experience horseback riding for the first time, you can take a walk with one of our ponies while the kids enjoy sitting in the saddle. We also offer riding lessons for children age 6 or older.
